Dutch, Born 1949
Fred Arends was born in Arnhem, Holland in 1949 and began his apprenticeship at the age of twelve. In 1967 young Arends attended Arnhem¹s Acadamy of Fine Arts. He became fascinated with the realist movement in painting and steadily developed and refined his technique. Today, however, he cites the works of the 19th century romantic painters for having the biggest impact on his style and artistic outlook.
In 1973 Arends exhibited his paintings at the Commanderie van St. Jan Museum in Nijmegen, Holland. Since that time he has exhibited his work on a regular basis in Holland, Japan, Italy, Germany, and the United States.
