Kathleen Stout was born in southern California in 1951, although she has lived most of her life in Oregon, a state of diverse land and seascapes.

She has had an interest in arts and crafts from an early age and spent time learning to work with stained glass, sewing, working on decorative needlework, and crocheting. However, once a friend talked her into taking a painting class, she knew this was what she wanted to do with her spare time.

She studied with two accomplished artists/teachers; one who offered an impressionist style achieved with a palette knife, and the other a love of realism and color achieved with brushes. She incorporated some of the techniques from each of the artists and then came up with her own unique style.

Kathleen’s oil paintings are completed primarily through the use of a palette knife, a somewhat unique technique that adds texture and a more 3-D like appearance. She loves the palette knife as it adds challenge and texture.

She incorporates as much color as is realistically possible in her paintings. Each painting takes many weeks, sometimes months, to achieve the final outcome she is looking for.

Both Kathleen and her husband love to travel and see amazing sunsets, waterfalls, lakes, streams, mountains, oceans, etc. She then adds the inspiration found in these wonders and incorporates them into her paintings so that they are filled with color and texture.

Kathleen has sold paintings through commissions by private parties and to businesses in the Portland area. Her paintings have been displayed at the Glass Chameleon Gallery in the resort town of Bend, Oregon where she was the featured artist at Bend’s semi-annual art festival in 2003.
